Terrible - FIRE HAZARD!

Control panel caught fire and GE seemed to have very little concern, only offering a small discount off of a new GE unit or sending a repair person to try to fix the appliance that caught fire. Yeah, that's gonna be a no from me dawg. If I hadn't been at home or had been asleep, I could have died. I'm not going to trust a repair to a unit that literally incinerated itself in front of me.

This washer is EXTREMELY loud, the front seal is impossible to keep clean, and it frequently leaks. Would recommend buying ANYTHING else. Up until this point I have exclusively purchased GE appliances because i thought they had a reputation for reliability. My experience with this washer has me questioning ever buying GE again.

Bought this years ago. It has quite a few features and basically does it all. Best of all is the digital display that tells you how much longer until it's done. I wash blankets, sheets, shoes, etc. and it really does a good job. I bought it as an markdown item and I couldn't be happier. Just wish that I would have bought the matching gas dryer for it. Now I find myself trying to find the matching gas dryer for it. Which is probably next to impossible, but wish me luck.

Drum gasket broke within 5 years of use. Apparently the anchor that secured the gasket to the frame at the rear became loose over time resulting in excessive vibrations during use. This resulted in fracturing of the fiberglass gasket. Expecting a longer life out of such a substantial investment

Washer worked pretty well, but after 7 years started to make a lot of noise during the initial balancing and at the spin at the end. Technician determined the bearings are worn out, with lots of parts and labor needed to rebuild it, would cost about $1000. So we just ordered a new one, but not from GE. We are only washing every 2 weeks, so it's disappointing to see the short life time, which seems to be inline with a number of other reviews. Disappointing also that there is no reasonable path the fix these machines, what a waste of materials.

Worked great then failed

We have had this washer for 7 years and over the past year it does not drain properly. After going through all of the trouble shooting, replacing filters and hoses, nothing seemed to fix this problem. The washer machine timer would display 2 mins left on the cycle, then all of the sudden go back up to 17 minutes remaining and this would go on for 2-3 more times. Now, this washer machine just started making a grinding noise when spinning. We had a technician come to our house(was here for only 2 minutes) and said the transmission is bad and would be a $700+ repair and its not worth it to fix it. It's sad that this thing barely made it 7 years and already needs to be replaced. We have had many GE appliances over the years. Most have served us well, but we have had an increasing number of issues and we have started to lose confidence in GE appliances.

I am incredibly disappointed that a $1000+ unit 4-5 years ago has failed nearly beyond repair. Further, the tech came out and confirmed in 5 min that it is $1,000 to repair. This is wild that I had to pay $100 for this assessment. Our home is full of GE appliances and they have been nothing but trouble after the first 3 years.

We bought our washer/dryer set on sale at the local Lowes in 2015 (about 6 years ago). Overall it's been really good for us. It has a lot of features and the clothes always came out clean surprisingly dry. Recently the spin cycle at max has gotten really loud, like I can hear it across the house. The service agent Lowes sent out said the bearing is going and that it'll be about $500 in parts and $200 in labor. For that I can almost buy a new machine. I'll give it 3 stars, because it has work really well, but I'm disappointed that it had such a catastrophic failure at the lower end of the expected 6-10 year lifetime of a washing machine, and that the replacement parts are half the cost of a new unit. I really expect my appliances to push 10+ years with some reasonable PM and occasional service. I have heard the GE Appliance branch was purchased by Haier since we bought this machine, so I'd consider trying a newer GE if the price and reviews are good.

I purchased this machine in Aug 2016 from the local LOWE'S. It does clean clothes very well. However, it started getting pretty loud after a year. Now it sounds like an airplane taking off. I just measured over 70 dB sound, and that wasn't even the loudest part of cycle. Now the spin cycle never finishes. Won't buy GE again.

Great for 3.5 Years then Failed

This washer worked well for 3.5 years. Within the past month, the basket seemed to become severely imbalanced and spin cycles incredible loud. I removed the rear panel, and whether when balancing or when spinning, the basket shakes significantly. The shocks are fine. It appears that mine, like every other more recent review, has failed at the basket and/or hub. This is wholly disappointing and unacceptable for a machine less than five years old, and particularly one that cost roughly $1,000 when new. In addition, because there have been so many other failures, I question whether there was a defect in design or components.

I bought the washer and matching dyer at Lowes. At over a thousand dollars a piece, I expected good quality. After roughly three and a half years it began having trouble. We are a household of only two people, so it wasn™€™t really used all that much. I was very disappointed when the spin cycle began making so much noise that it would drown out the television on the other side of the house. It vibrated so much that it would move on the floor. Four years for a thousand dollar washer is simply abysmal.

The Worst Washing Machine Ever!

My washer started having problems just after a year of owning it; I should have called but never did. I owned it 6 years only and it is dead! Too costly to fix..faulty ball bearings and a cracked inner drum basket. Other issues include constant mold and mildew in the detergent drawer and around the rubber surrounding the basket...even when you leave both open all the time when not in use (I actually remove the detergent drawer when not using it and it still molds). The clothes often were soaking in water after the wash machine was done running. The cycle took hours to complete, too! It would indicate 18 minutes left, go check in 18 minutes and there is still 18 minutes left or more! Was constantly setting an alarm to check on my load in the middle of the night. Ridiculous! Also, socks and other small items get stuck in the pump filter!

First 3-4 yrs performance is good, clean cloths. Over last few months loud noise and warbling on spin cycles. When i opened up rear panel and DD motor cover, looks like bearing is worn out. As many other customer mentioned this has some design flaws which is causing bearing and spindle to worn out. GE should have provided atleast 5 yrs warranty considering the price of $1000 just washer. I may further investigate if the parts and labor cost exceeds $400.. i will trash this and go some other brand who can provide good warranty and service

Reliability is abysmal

Had this washer for just about 5 years. It started being very loud when spinning after about 3 years. Now the bearing is totally shot and the machine is dead. A 3-5 year lifetime is extremely short and an indication of the poor design and cost cutting likely involved in making these machines. Strongly suggest to stay away from this model and GE appliances.

I purchased this washer and the matching dryer when we bought new appliances for our home. It was the only appliances that I didn't research first before buying. BIG MISTAKE. After three years of use, I cannot stand this washer and will be replacing it. I have hated it for over a year. It did fine for about 1 1/2 years, before it started to act up. Of course, just out of the warranty period. I would NEVER buy another GE washer again. I have down so many hours of troubleshooting and my husband who is a mechanical engineer has as well. It is just a poorly built machine. I can't wait to replace it. I am so done with having to respin loads and wonder if it ever even washed my clothes. On the positive note, the dryer works quite well. This GE washing machine makes me so afraid to purchase another one in case I get another LEMON!!! I gave this machine 1 star for the one year in which I had clothes that washed, unless I was just clueless to the fact that it wasn't really washing them.

Basket is broken - Very loud banging during spin

I have had this machine since 2014 and it appears the basket is broken already. I expected this to last 10+ years. I can move the basket up and down easily by hand, also if the turn the basket by hand you can hear something is loose. During spin cycle there is very loud banging and shaking, feels like earthquake or jet engine. These are poor quality, this is the third large issue I have had with the machine, unfortunately I no longer have warranty

5 year Extended Warranty is a must

When operating properly it is a very nice set. I never buy extended warranties. I surprised my wife when I decided to purchase the warranty. We've had the set for 4 years. We've had the tub assembly replaced twice. The repair person asked if we were jamming clothes in. New motor (stator/rotor), tub assembly (front/rear) and, spin basket. The 2 service members were prompt and fixed the unit in just under 3 hours. They left the old parts behind. The gasket was not properly seated. We'll see how long it lasts. The 5 year HD warranty has saved my butt twice.

After 60 days of owning it developed a horrible smell. Sour and moldy. Over a gallon of bleach later it smelled much better. We learned to keep the door open always. Then after 4 years, the main hub bearing is going out. Horrible roaring noise. Also the timer has quit working properly. A 30 minute wash takes an hour and 15 minutes. We have to set the oven timer to turn off the washer. WONT BUY ANOTHER ONE!!!

I have been frustrated with this machine ever since I bought it. I should have returned it, but I had already returned one of them and felt it was my fault for buying garbage. We've already had to replace the motherboard and that's bad, but nowhere near as bad as the main problem. GE tells you that it's SUPPOSED to use a small amount of water, but this machine doesn't even deliver enough water to wet my items. Seriously. I have had to add extra hot and cold water sprayers to wet my items for washing and to wet them for rinsing. It's a HUGE hassle. Also, the dispensers do not work properly. They leave soap and especially softener stuck and slimy in the dispenser drawer. If u wish to have clean items I have to deposit all liquids directly into the drum. I am sick physically and it's very difficult for me to handle all of this. I can't pay enormous fees to have some repair person come and fix it, if it CAN be fixed. This has been such a strain. I have nowhere to turn with this issue.

We bought this washer 3 years ago - along with a refrigerator and dryer. After about 1 year we started to experience a horrible knocking when draining or spinning. Similar to when a washer is not level. My husband checked it and it was level. We called the store we purchased it from and they told us to call GE service. 2 yrs, later-just repaired.

Washer died after 4 years

I had this washer for 4 years, spent $ 890 on it and paid for 3 year warranty. I have been unhappy with the mildew smell and have to clean basket and rubber seal several times a week. Clothes come out smelling musty. Now a year out of warrenty it died. No power but sparks when I plug it in. Outlet and breaker good. Replaced control panel- beeped 10 times then died. Called GE to get service but they don™€™t come out to our zip code. Tried local appliance repair place and they don™€™t work on Ge washers . Very disappointed and don™€™t know what to do now except buy a top loader without the gadgets.
