Dampener rattles, blower fan not balanced

Works fine except blower fan squirrel cage very out of balance and flap on 10 x 3.25 duct adapter rattles like crazy on high fan. Overall build quality 4 out of 10. Blue plastic stuck in all corners typical of all new GE appliances.

Overall I think this will be a good range hood. The installation could be re-designed to be easier. Think of what is needed for 1 guy to install this hood. The screws used in installation should all have the same drive type -T-20, Phillips, etc. The screws that attach the hood to the cabinet should be longer to make them easier to start into the cabinet. Compared to this last hood - this one sagged in the middle at the cabinet and I needed to caulk to close that gap. It would also be helpful if you prominently list the part number for the carbon filter (recirculation). I had to Duck Duck Go to find it on Amazon and the GE site was not helpful in finding it. Noise level is what I expected and is typical. The main grease filters go in and out easily and I like their design. Appearance is nice.

Disappointed as post installation (ducted), the appliance: (1) doesn™€™t remove odors, smoke, etc. even while cooking a chicken breast on frying pan, (2) shakes the wall and floor, (3) is too loud. Purchased one level up from base model and am told by installer everything was done ok. Amazed that this model could not meet the most basic expectations and I highly regret purchase and doubt adequacy of any GE model now after initially being pleased with this purchase. Maybe I should have stuck with Broan, the previous model.Am told installer is willing to uninstall product and fully refund, I will need to seek help from different product and installer.

Quick and easy installation, beautiful finish!

Installation for this rangehood was easy with two people to handle it while installing. It has everything you need right out of the box for ventless, top vent, or rear vent installs. In my case it was installed ventless as that is my setup. You will need a wire clamp as it does not come with one. Install took around 37 minutes. Simply remove your old hood, hold the new hood in place and drill the screw holes. Yeah there was no template to use, but you can also simply measure and drill if you choose to do it that way. Install the screws leaving room to slide the hood keyholes over them. Then insert the wiring through the appropriate knock out and clamp it in place. Finally slide the hood over the screws, tighten them, and complete the wiring. At that point you are good to turn back on the power and test the unit out. The lights are so much brighter than we had before and the fan definitely pulls A LOT of airflow! The stainless perfectly matches our refrigerator and goes well with our darker stainless stove! Excellent product with a more modern look!

The range hood was exactly what I needed and was easy to install. Fan was a little noisy, but exhaust was powerful. The LED lighting provided plenty of light. The only drawback was the screws needed to attach the charcoal filter were not provided, nor was a description of the screws or a part number.

Energy Efficient but Lacking Some Features

I bought this hood because another model was not available. This model is higher in price, and does have an Energy Star rating and LED lights. It lacks some features on a lower priced model such as more fan speeds and a timer on the fan. This is a decent vent hood and provides a lot of bright light on the range top. The LED lights don't project heat like the halogen bulbs would have. The fan is quiet on the low speed but a bit loud on the high speed. I use it in recirculate mode so I don't use the fan much at all. Overall, it's a decent vent hood but at this higher price point could have included more features.

I really like the way the LED lights are on both (under) sides of the hood. The setup allow light to flow onto the range below and part of the counters on both sides of the range. My old hood was 25 yrs old and noisy; this one is quiet. There is the option to outside or internally vent. I purchsed the vent to gow with the GE JGB735 gas range.

I'm upgrading my kitchen appliances to stainless steel, so bought this range hood to replace a 30yr. old white GE hood. I have to say the 30 yr. old hood was built much better than this one. The metal is not as good a quality and the fan and housing inside the hood are made of plastic. There is some incorrect information in the listing description which evidentially has been brought to their attention, but it has not been corrected. The listing states the light has a dimmer night light feature which is not correct. The light only has an on/off switch. There is also confusion on which filters are included with the hood. It does include the metal grease filters, but it does not include the charcoal filter which is required when the hood is not vented and used in the recirculation mode. So, I had to make another purchase to order the required filter. The level of noise the fan makes is about normal for any vent hood, but this one definitely moves some air! I've only used the low speed and it is sufficient to do the job. My biggest complaint is the four exposed screw tips on the top of the hood. The cupboard it is attached to is not as deep as the hood, so part of the top is exposed. I did not notice this until after the vent was installed and was wiping across the top of the hood. My rag kept catching on something, so I got the step stool out and looked on top. It wouldn't be so bad if it was the head of the screw that's visible, but it's the pointy end and they are sharp. Thankfully, no one in the family is tall enough to notice this, but I really think GE could do a better job with their craftsmanship. Overall, the range hood looks good, but I just wish it was built better. Will it last 30 years like the old one? Only time will tell.

My previous GE rangehood with Halogen lights illuminated my enter cooktop. I was disappointed my new rangehood does not have a nightlight setting.

Flawed design - only effective for left side stove

I had high hopes for this hood. I still like that it is energy star, relatively quiet (~50 db (4.5 sones) on high, and ~33db (1.5 sones) on low), and a short 5.5" for under-cabinet installation. But looks are deceiving and performance is skewed. The photo shows two grease filters on the underside, but the one on the right is purely for show. The fan intake is ONLY on the left. After installation, it draws well from the left but makes it worse on the right. In fact, a pot boiling on the back right element has it's steam pushed into the kitchen if the vent is on low! And it is all but useless on low if the larger right front element is in use. So, if I use the right side of the stove, the hood is only functional on high. And for those with smooth front panel controls (such as our GE Profile PHS930SLSS induction range), the lights reflect off the control panel and shine right up into your eyes while cooking. I'm looking into swapping the bulbs out with cloudy lens versions, or manually bending the metal to have them shine toward the back of the range. I wonder if I would have been better off with Broan's centered blower design.

Everything (and more for a vented application) came in the box except a charcoal filter, and I needed one since I installed this in a non-vented basement kitchenette application. The charcoal filter was an extra $30 and had to be ordered over the phone with a 14-21 day delivery. Installation was relatively easy and while I had to prop it up at times, I was able to install it without any assistance. I had to grind down a section of the mounting brackets, but that was due to the cabinet style I used. The 2, 5 watt LED lights are nice and bright. The fan seems to be strong. Controls are simple on/off and not complicated.

I'd tried a couple of other models but the fans were incredibly noisey. I checked-out the JVX5305SJSS at a local appliance store and it has been great. Even on a high setting the noise is a fraction of the others and it vents great!

Replaced an old microwave over the stove with this, and the difference is absolutely awesome! LED lighting on this thing works better than the can lights in my kitchen (needless to say, found a bit of dirt I couldn't see before). I also like having the space to cook between the stovetop and the hood - before it was difficult to make any soups or pastas because the pots were almost too big for the space. Filter works great, too. You can install this to recirculate if needed, but have to buy charcoal filters separately.
