Illegible Controls

We would give 5 stars - if the control display issue can be resolved. We purchased this cooktop some time ago in anticipation of building a new house. We've just installed it and are disappointed to find that the controls are not illuminated and are almost impossible to read. Is this a defect? Can it be corrected? We are happy with how it cooks, but find it very difficult to operate. Please let us know if this can be remedied.

We purchased a GE Profile 36" induction cooktop - so glad we did!!! In AZ the summers are so hot it is difficulty to cook anything in the kitchen without having to turn the air conditioning was up - this cooktop produces no heat and cooks beautifully - better than any electric or even gas range I have ever had.

Fast Cooking and Always Looks as Clean as New

Looks sharp and stays looking new over time (this is the second home I installed one in). This cook top is much faster too cook with than gas and clean up of the smooth surface is a breeze. Love the larger burner for large pots and the variety of powers and sizes, although I use the front two burners the most and the griddle function occasionally.

Scratches way too easily for every day use

I have enjoyed cooking with induction, but this cook top scratches so easily with every day use. I have switched to a stand alone burner. My cast iron enamel are useless on this cooktop as the scratch it too easily. Also my lower left burner makes a ridiculous clicking sound when turned above 4 on the heat scale.

Cooktop stays hot after burner is shut off

I am very disappointed in this cooktop. I have talked to friends and family that have induction cooktops and all told me that I would love the fact that the cooktop does not get hot only the cookware gets hot. To my surprise and disappointment your cook top stays hot after the burner is shut off.

I waited a year for this product to arrive and then had to spend more to fit in where my other 36" cooktop was. But so far I love it. Boiled three cups of water in about a minute and went straight to a lovely simmer in about 30 seconds.

I moved from gas!

OMG! What a treat it is to cook. Yes, you will more than likely need to get new cookware but once you start cooking with this cooktop, you will be very pleased. Clean up is a breeze. If we are frying, simply cover the cooktop with paper towel, set your pan in the burner and cook. When done, throw away the paper towel. The ability to quickly control the heat while cooking is remarkable. Had to learn how to cook again but it was worth it. I cannot say enough about this cooktop.

We had heard about the convenience and safety features of a convection cooktop, so we decided to replace our gas cooktop with an induction model. After researching available models from several manufacturers, we chose this cooktop due its favorable reviews, nice appearance, and features. We had to have a 50 amp circuit added for this unit, but once that was completed installation was a breeze. The black glass of this cooktop looks really nice with our black marble counter tops and the surface is super easy to clean using a cream cooktop cleaner and cloth. Cooking with this cooktop takes a little getting used to since pans heat up so quickly and the upper end of the control range (8-9) is best used to quickly get water boiling or bring a pan of food to a high temperature. So 9 = extra high, 7 = high, 4 = medium, 1 = low instead of 9 = high, 5 = medium, 1 = low like we initially expected. Everything else about using this cooktop is straightforward. We like that burners don't actually get hot unless a pan is present and that the entire control panel can be locked for safety and cleaning.

Good improvements

This is to replace a like unit #PHP960DM2BB. Was unhappy that 3 of the burners went out after just 11 years. Felt that they should have lasted longer for the cost. I might have tried a different brand but GE was the only brand of all brands on the market, that would fit in the existing hole in the granite countertop. We love induction, ease of cleanup, heating speed, temperature control. Hopefully this unit is no different in those respects. As for the improvements: the burner location rings were hard to see while cooking and the pan would often be off the heating unit. It is now much easier to see and locate the pan. It had always been a pet peeve of mine. I thought that the location of the controls timer and the large unit was was not well thought out, reversing those is much improved. Joining and syncing the two left units is a wonderful change. I'm neutral on the controls for heating units starting at "L" or "H" as we cook in the mid ranges 4-7. We almost repaired the old unit when the left two units went out but then the large center unit got inconsistent so with the costs being he same for repairs and replacement, replacing was he only choice. I just hope that this unit lasts somewhat longer.

We installed the same model in our last house and loved it so much we bought it again for our new house. We replaced a relatively new gas cooktop that heated large pots slowly and was a real chore to clean. This cooktop is so fast to heat the pots and so easy to clean.

If you like electric, this is your cooktop

This is my second cooktop from GE in the profile range. The previous one was also an induction. Everything about this cooktop is great, but I would be lacking in my reviewing duty if I did not point out somethings that might be annoying at first, but you get used to really fast. 1) Cookware. You got to get pans with ferrous metal (magnets will stick to it). Just take a magnet with you to the store, rip open that box like a beast and see if you magnet "sticks" to the bottom of the pan; I recommend HexClad if you can afford it. The cooktop uses magnets to excite the metal causing heat. Neat stuff, kind of like magic really. Cast iron is great, but it will scratch up the top. Get a barrier from your local internet store to protect your beautiful top. 2) Speaking of glass top and beauty; it is just glass. You have to use the right cleaners and be careful, within reason, while using the top. Again, there are silicon type pads that can be used, will not melt, with your cooktop. 3) The noise can be a rough thing to get used to, can be a bit loud, but that is what music is for, so crank the tunes and get cookin! Love the cooktop, recommend to anyone.

We have gone through three of these induction cooktops and now looking for a fourth in 20 years. They are fantastic cooktops but you will not get more than 4 to 7 years, if you're lucky. Very very expensive for disposable cooktops. They are beautiful and cook exceptionally well, just not built to last.

Repeat perfection

This induction cooktop replaced the same model I had for 10 years. Induction is an excellent way to cook. I have had the fancy grated gas stoves and spent a lot of time cleaning them. Not now, the beautiful black glass top takes a few seconds to wipe off and I am finished. The controls are instantaneously responsive to the touch of your finger. I love it!
